Osteen began the interview by referencing his new book, I Declare: 31 Promises to Speak Over Your Life, saying that his goal as a pastor is to lift his congregants up, and instil a good sense of self-image in each one of his service attendees.

Soledad O'Brien, host of CNN's "Starting Point," then steered the conversation toward the subject of homosexuality, asking Osteen if he believes that homosexuality is a sin.

Osteen responded by telling O'Brien that although he does believe that homosexuality is a sin according to the Bible, he does not focus on the subject in his sermons as much as he does in interviews.

"It seems like in Christianity, sometimes we categorize sin," Osteen explained.

Under his leadership, the Lakewood Church broadcasted its preaching in more than a hundred nations. The supporter of Soulforce (a community formed for the welfare of LGBT) also went to the Lakewood church in hopes of meeting and inviting the pastor personally.

However, his plans didn’t impress Joel, who had a sermon to prepare for Sunday. The pastor agreed to the host.

In this clip, Joel gets grilled about homosexuality on live TV. He does state the Bible calls the practice of homosexuality a sin, but sadly, he demurs and tries to change the direction of the conversation as well.
