I recommend following @worldpridepanama on Instagram for a full event agenda. I recommend booking at 5:30 pm for sunset or the morning for sunrise. Known for its weekend drag shows and laser-lit dance floor, this place lives for late nights.

Cangrejo Radio (Vía Argentina)

An indie, queer-welcoming venue fusing cocktails, DJ sets, and a local artsy crowd.

Vaccinations: All travellers to Panama should make sure they're up to date with routine vaccinations like measles, mumps and chickenpox. Most restaurants will include a 10% service charge, but if not, that's a good ballpark figure for your gratuity. We got to try most of them here and loved it!

Restaurante Casa Blanca in Casco Viejo

Famous Caribbean restaurant in Panama City located right in front of Plaza Bolívar in the old town.

But for us, we will never forget Casa Blanca because of their delicious (and beautifully presented!) ceviche. Hike to the highest natural point in the city, spotting wildlife like sloths and toucans, and take in breathtaking 360° views of the skyline, ocean, and Panama Canal—while learning the powerful history of this once-restricted land. BOOK HERE.

AuthorJoey Bonura

I’m Joey—originally from Louisville, Kentucky, but I’ve called Latin America home for over 15 years.

There's coffee, chocolate, beer, cocktails, and ceviche. This session can accommodate 1-2 people and you’ll receive 40-50 edited high-resolution images. BOOK HERE.

Spend the day on an island

The Sonny Island Resort on Isla Bolaños is one of the best islands in the Pearl Island Archipelago to open its beautiful beachfront to visitors.

Get ready for the ultimate golden-hour experience! However, the big Carnival in February has also become an “unofficial” LGBTQ event to look out for:

Panama City Carnival – February/March

During the big Carnival in late February that takes over the entire country, an “unofficial” gay presence is growing stronger here each year with more and more queer parties taking place over the big four days.

Gay Pride and other events in Panama

When it comes to gay events in Panama, the main one is Pride week in June.

It's our starting point for inspiration and research as they have good ideas. However, when you check-in for your flight, your airline will require you to show that you have a return/onward travel ticket. I recommend going after 4 pm because the heat can be intense. It's also a great way to meet gay locals and discover the underground gay scene.

You can also follow @rumbapridepanama to find out where all the parties are taking place. You’ll learn about the entire chocolate-making process, from bean to bar, at a chocolate factory in Casco Viejo.
