The Pontiac â€” Central

The Pontiac is an inclusivity-centred dive bar that ranked No.

33 on Asia’s 50 Best Bars in 2023, where “the only thing that defines us is how we treat each other and ourselves, everything else is rock n’ roll baby”!

It leans toward gay men and specifically bears, but you can really find everyone here. The vibe is fun and festive with overhanging branches, beautiful flowers, and of course, a disco ball!

In addition to the annual pride parade and a number of events during pride month in June, queer folk and allies can visit gay bars and nightclubs. (Except for homophobes and arsonists.)

Those with a penchant for karaoke can hop down to Singsing Bar on the 18th floor where they host regular singing competitions and have a podium fitted with a dedicated karaoke setup.

Vibranium – A spacious dance floor and no cover charge

Yet another queer-friendly space in the same building!

There’s a wide range of ages here, and it leans predominately gay. Don’t take my word for it, just listen to Sue Bird (around 01:23):

The 36-year-old bar has weathered a lot of changes on the Hill, and it’s miraculously survived the pandemic to come out even stronger. You can find Host parties at Mihn Club – a safe space for music lovers, misfits and magic-makers of all races, genders and sexual identities.

While Virus has a calmer vibe, L’Paradis offers beer pong, darts, karaoke, and shots, perfect for those who are young and looking for love. If you visit on the weekends, get ready for the tables to be moved to the side and for the dance floor to fill – everyone is welcome to join for a good time!

Happy Hours: 5:00pm – 9:00pm
Location: 37 Pottinger St, Central
Opening Hours: 4 pm–2 am (Mon); 4 pm–5 am (Tue-Sat); 4 pm–2 am (Sun)

Mihn Club — Sheung Wan

Tucked away in a commercial building in Sheung Wan, Mihn Club is an underground club for Hong Kong’s trendsetters.

dmens gay bar

Known by the Chinese character 宀, this spot is not exclusively LGBTQIA+, but it champions inclusivity, welcoming all races, genders, and sexual identities. This charming little gem is no frills — it’s all about real connections and those deep, no-BS conversations that keep you coming back. Also: Burgers. The inclusive bar often has patrons spilling out onto the cobbled street, and we suspect it has something to do with its daily buy-one-get-one happy hour deal stretching from 5pm to 9pm.

Opening hours: 4pm to 5am

Homosexuality was legalized in 1991 in Hong Kong, and although gay marriage still isn’t, being queer is no longer the taboo it once was.
