However letters came to light in 2009 showing that there had indeed been a friendship between Ronnie and Boothby dating back at least to 1963.[1] The association between Conservative peer Robert Boothby and Ronnie Kray was the subject of an MI5 investigation [2]. He spent three years in Maidstone Prison, four cells along the landing from Reggie Kray.

Ronnie and his identical twin brother Reggie were amongst the leaders of organised crime in the East Endin the 1950s and 1960s. Now Reggie Kray's gay lover has spoken out for the first time - to Today - and he says that Reggie's wife Frances was forced - by his brother Ronnie - to take the pills that killed her.

Bradley Allardyce moved to Altea, Spain, and opened a restaurant after his release from prison three years ago.

Maureen Flanagan was a close friend of the Kray family for more than forty years, and was also close to the girl who became Reggie's wife, Frances Shea. Allardyce said, "He just all of a sudden broke down and he said: 'I've got to tell you something I've only ever told two people - Ron killed Frances.'"

Allardyce says Ronnie confessed to Reggie two days after Frances' death.

In 1964, the Sunday Mirror reported that Scotland Yard was investigating a homosexual relationship between an unnamed peer (actually the Conservative peer Robert Boothby) and a major underworld figure (Ronnie Kray). Scotland Yard have long suspected that the infamous Kray twins committed more murders than those for which they were imprisoned for life in 1969.

They never had sex.’

He also revealed for the first time the gang started by the brothers, known as The Firm, had plans to execute the brothers just before their arrests.

‘The twins were a nuisance and causing grief for everyone else.

Ronnie Kray(Ronald Kray, 1933–1995) was a gangster.

Ronnie said he forced her to take the pills that killed her. He died aged 1995 of a heart attack.

Ms Flanagan told the Today Programme: "When she first came on the scene, the first reaction from Ronnie was jealousy. Kray, who died two years ago, was serving life for the murder of Jack 'the hat' McVitie.

"It would have added weight to the allegations that these were indiscriminate murderers." All the people involved, except Allardyce, are dead. She saw first hand how Ronnie despised her.

ITV Secrets of the Krays: Author who knew them claimed gangster twins Ronnie and Reggie Kray ‘had secret sex with each other’

The author of their official biography made the shocking allegation before he died

ITV's Secrets of the Krays airs again tonight, feeding London's endless and insatiable obsession with the city's most notorious gangster twins.

The series explores the rise, reign and fall of twin brothers Ronnie and Reggie Kray, who terrorised East London in the 50s and 60s with their thuggery and violence.

Tales of the twins, from scandalous rumoured affairs with Members of Parliament to the brutal treatment of anyone who crossed them, have shocked audiences for decades.

But perhaps the most shocking allegation about the Krays was revealed in a 2011 book by author John Pearson, who interviewed both brothers before they died.

Mr Pearson, who died last year aged 91, alleged Ronnie and Reggie Kray had secret sex with each other in their adolescence - and claims he got his information right from the horse's mouth.

In his book Notorious: The Immortal Legend of the Kray Twins, the author, who interviewed both twins upon their personal invitation, claims Ronnie disclosed the secret of the incestuous relationship.

According to Mr Pearson, the brothers had sex with each other to hide their sexualities from the rest of the world, the Mirror previously reported.

In the later years of their criminal empire, it became common knowledge that Ronnie Kray was gay and Reggie was bisexual.

But the men were initially terrified of their secret spreading through London's East End in the 60s, as it would have been perceived as a sign of weakness by rivals at the time.

So they reportedly only had sex with each other in order to keep the secret, according to Mr Pearson.
