Jesus gay in walking dead

I just checked my messages this morning and everyone's like, 'Tom Payne Confirms...' but I didn't confirm. (Denise wasn't with women in the comics, so the show obviously doesn't mind changing things up on that front.) And Jesus' situation is extremely reminiscent of conversations that swirled around Daryl a few years ago, when his sexuality was thrown into question due to all of the sex he wasn't having with Carol and Beth over the years.

But yeah, if we're worrying about whose bed Jesus' boots are going under, at least that means we're not worrying about him getting killed soon, which can't be said about Daryl.

For the record, here's how Thomas Payne feels about if the world is ready for gay Jesus.

Absolutely. Not merely confined to the realms of dystopian drama and gory horror, the series – in its raw, blistering portrayal of a post-apocalyptic world – forces us to confront the unnerving possibility of the line that divides humanity from monstrosity being thinner than we dare to acknowledge.

No hook-ups for them.

Let us summarize:

  • Conservative church denominations perceived the portrayal of Jesus as an openly gay person as potentially distortive of Christian doctrines.
  • The character’s name ‘Jesus’, considered a symbol of purity and holiness, coupled with his sexuality, has caused discourse within religious circles.
  • Progressive church denominations expressed more acceptance and understanding, appreciating the series’ depiction of diverse identities.
  • The different responses reflect the ongoing debate surrounding the interpretation of scripture and engagement with popular culture in relation to sexuality.

What is the Catholic Church’s Stance regarding Jesus’ depiction in The Walking Dead?

We often find ourselves confronted with representations of characters that challenge our understanding and beliefs, and such is the case with the portrayal of ‘Jesus’, a character in ‘The Walking Dead’ series.

The revelation of Jesus being an openly gay character, concurrent with his portrayal in the comic book series, is a point of interest not only for enthusiasts of the show, but also within religious discourse. While some saw it as a refreshing portrayal of a layered, complex, and authentic character, others viewed it with skepticism and concern, questioning whether the series was pushing an agenda or exploiting religious symbolism.

A sound and extensive analysis uncovers that while the portrayal of ‘Jesus’ as a gay character might stir discussion, it does not, in fact, constitute blasphemy. On the flip side, maybe the increased pressure of rebelling against Negan would make Jesus want to create bigger connections with others.

Currently, Jesus and a newly courageous Carl are on a mission to locate the Sanctuary, though it's hard to know exactly how that side of things will play out.

When The Walking Dead revealed that Paul Monroe, the fan-favorite character nicknamed “Jesus” for his long hair and beard, was gay, many fans wondered how long it would be before a religious person or group registered their offense. We even recently speculated that AMC might be reluctant to depict a character named Jesus on TV, for fear of alienating potential viewers if the character got up to anything that might offend Christians. It didn’t take long: in this week’s “Letter Hacks” column, Kirkman received two very different letters from fans regarding Jesus’s sexuality.

They contended that the character’s codename ‘Jesus’, an apparent symbol of purity and holiness, coupled with his revealed homosexuality, could portray unclear messages regarding the Biblical stance on homosexuality. To them, it’s an area that beckons caution, given the spiritual significance and reverence attributed to the name ‘Jesus’ in several doctrines.

His sexuality, a topic often reduced to hushed whispers within the confines of mainstream culture, is a vital facet of his identity in this dystopian narrative.

However, it must be said that this trait of Jesus’ character holds true to the comic series that the television show is based upon. But since any attempts to take him down and get information would just lead to him bamboozling us and escaping, we'll have to look to the show and comics.

In giving his answer to TMZ, Thomas Payne mentions that Jesus is gay in the source material, which is indeed the case.

I think we're in the right place. Hence, the television iteration is merely upholding the character dimensions mapped by the original creators through the medium of the comic series. I think it'd be awesome.

Regardless of who he'll be making out with, or if he'll even be doing that, Jesus will be back on The Walking Dead Sunday night on AMC.
