This has continued his success in a 3rd Don B Welch play "Walking By Faith".

BornApril 17, 1989

Jermelle Simon just pulled off one of the cleanest soft-launches in romantic history: a literal marriage announcement disguised as a poolside kiss.

But with the chemistry came the fear. CONGRATULATIONS.”

  • “CONGRATS KINGS!”

  • It’s the kind of reaction you get when queer people witness a love story that’s tender, grown, grounded, and unapologetically joyful.

A Celebration of Brown Gay Love

In an era where relationships are sometimes treated like content strategies, Simon and Jones remind us of something beautifully simple: love doesn’t always need an audience.

The Upshaws are determined to successfully make everything work, and in these new episodes, they continue to ride life’s ups and downs. This tenacity made him dedicate his life to the training of an actor both in front and behind the camera. Just a photo, a date—10.1.25—and the words that broke every gay heart (in the best possible way):

    “No aisle.

This small town boy always felt out of place knowing he was destined to do great things and reallocate to facilitate his acting dreams in Hollywood, California. Just them.

    Just husbands.

And honestly? That part stays private. A breath of fresh air in a world that documents everything.

    A Life Built Together

What we do know is that 2025 was a year of big shifts for Simon.

    A masterpiece:

    • “The fact that it’s backdated and no one really knew makes this post even better! A role in the widely popular director Don B Welch play "Silence". Joyce, the downtown L.A. restaurant that has seen more soft-launches than a startup accelerator. And then, like so many gay relationships, a single date changed everything.

It’s the “I see you, but I’m not about to make it weird” kind.

According to Simon, Jones slid into his inbox after watching him on a now-wrapped Netflix series, sending a message that was part compliment, part congratulations, and 100% successful.

“Real smooth like, but friendly for sure,” Simon says, remembering the moment.

      Was it flirting?

And in April, Jones proposed after they moved into their new home—a home they share with Simon’s three children, who are clearly a central part of this family.

“Loving [Obio] didn’t feel like I was betraying myself,” Simon explained.

It’s the kind of simple, powerful truth that stops you in your tracks.

Meanwhile, Jones remains the soft-spoken, thoughtful partner every parent dreams of bringing into their kids’ lives.

“I think he does a beautiful job of being mindful and aware of others,” Simon added.

Additionally, he also touches on why he initially wanted to be involved with TheUpshaws, the importance of queer representation in shows revolving around Black families, and how he hopes Bernard Jr. is an inspiration to many.

The Chillest Marriage Announcement of All Time

Back to the photo: the newlyweds are poolside, kissing, serving a vibe that says “honeymoon energy meets brunch after.” It’s intimate, low-key, sun-drenched bliss.

Which is why fans did NOT expect a marriage bombshell to drop in the caption.

    And the comments?

That’s the kind of love worth celebrating all year long.

A serve. In October of last year, he came out publicly on National Coming Out Day, a moment fans embraced with love and support.
