Frank Billingsley Biography
Frank Billingsley is an American Meteorologist working for KPRC2. FRANK Billingsley is currently the longest-running TV weatherman in Houston, bringing weather reports to Channel 2 viewers for over three decades. The beloved meteorologist, who often shared tidbits of his personal life along with his weather forecasts, will be leaving KPRC 2 News just months after another KPRC meteorologist, Khambrel Marshall, announced his retirement in November 2023. Frank Billingsley didn’t provide a reason for leaving Houston’s NBC affiliate, where he had been working for 30 years. “I’m going to take a break and see what it’s like not to wear a suit five days a week!” Billingsley said, as reported by Culture Map Houston. In February 1995, he joined KPRC News. The wedding ceremony was held in front of 70 guests at the Eventi Hotel near the Empire State Building in Manhatten. Frank believes that all people in the world should be kind to each other as we all have more than 99 percent of our DNA in common. Frank with his spouse Kevin (Photo: houston.culturemap.com) Frank first met Kevin in 1995 when he started working in KPRC Channel 2. He hosted Radar the Weather Dog with Frank from 2003 to 2006. “We’ve watched it before and they have even asked me to be in it, but the parade always fell on June 22, which is my birthday and my mother’s, so there were always too many conflicts.” This year, the festival and parade down Westheimer Road is June 29, making it a perfect post-birthday celebration for one of Houston’s favorite weather guys. People go to Memorial Park, they go to baseball games, and even outdoor weddings! But it may have surprised a few of Frank Billingsley’s viewers when local media reported his wedding to longtime partner Kevin Gilliard last December. Things are changing. In his spare time, Billingsley enjoys playing Wordle, volunteering with organizations like Habitat for Humanity, and reading up on “space, eclipses, and weather phenomena,” as reported by Channel 2 News. He also regularly posts on social media, and happens to be quite active on Instagram, posting snaps of his life behind the camera. Frank Billingsley brought weather reports to Houston locals for decades, and he also shared tidbits of his personal life throughout the years. “We’ve had nineteen named storms almost every season,” he says. Some viewers may have known he was gay, but most probably didn’t—and didn’t care. But it wasn’t until 2013 that he started searching and shimmying his family tree for his roots. Billingsley is openly gay. He serves as the Chief Meteorologist for KPRC2 News. “They just ate each other,” Billingsley says. He’s received dozens of Best Weathercaster awards from the Associated Press, the Houston Press Club, and the Dallas Press Club, among other organizations. His favorite accolade, however, is reportedly from the Houston Chronicle, which named him the “Ultimate Weatherman.” Aside from reporting on the weather, Frank has been an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, men’s health, and adoption. He even wrote a book, Swabbed & Found: An Adopted Man’s Journey to Discover His Family Tree, published in 2017. Frank and his spouse, Kevin currently resides in Houston. Frank has received seven times the Best Weathercaster awards from the Associated Press. “It bothers me that people just don’t get that. Sign up for The US Sun newsletter
